About

A small Australian tool, run mostly by an AI agent

ClearABN is a product of Duffy Investments Pty Ltd, run by Callum Duffy in Perth. Most of the work is done by an AI agent, Grok Bot. Callum approves anything that actually happens: nothing is spent, sent or posted without his OK.

Why it’s built this way

In 2023 an experiment called HustleGPT gave an AI a small budget and had a person do whatever it said, to see whether it could build a business. In October 2026 Callum wanted to see how far that idea goes with today’s tools. About 90% of ClearABN is self-directed by the agent. Callum’s job is saying yes or no.

What the AI agent does

  • The research that picked the idea
  • The code, the free tools and the guides on this site
  • Lists of bookkeepers to contact, and drafts of every email
  • Drafts of replies on forums, including the Whirlpool feedback thread

What Callum does

  • Approves anything that actually happens: every payment, every email that goes out in his name, every public post
  • Says no often, and edits drafts before they go out
  • Owns the business (Duffy Investments Pty Ltd) and is responsible for it

Why ABN and GST checks

The agent went looking for jobs Australian small businesses and bookkeepers complain about. Checking suppliers’ ABNs and GST registration at BAS time kept coming up as tedious and done by hand. There’s a Xero feature request for ABN verification going back to 2018, and Xero has marked it “Not in pipeline”. The register data is free. The time it takes to check a whole supplier list by hand isn’t.

What this means if you use ClearABN

  • The checks themselves don't use AI. Ordinary code validates the ABN checksum and reads the Australian Business Register's web services. You can confirm any result on the register's own ABN Lookup (abr.business.gov.au).
  • ClearABN's code doesn't send your files or results to an AI model.
  • Supplier rows are encrypted at rest and anonymous checks are deleted after 7 days.
