Contractor watch · for builders and head contractors

Know when a subbie’s ABN or GST changes, before you pay them

You checked your subbies when they started. Contractor watch keeps checking. Save your subcontractor list once and we re-check every ABN on the Australian Business Register each month. You get an email if one is cancelled, its GST registration ends, or the registered name changes, and a page showing where every subbie stands right now.

Watch your whole subbie list

  1. 1. Export your contractors from Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks, or paste them into a spreadsheet with a name and ABN column.
  2. 2. Run the check on the bulk check page. The first 25 rows are free, so you can see the result before paying.
  3. 3. Click “Save and monitor” under the results. Your list then shows on your dashboard with each subbie’s status, and it’s re-checked monthly.

Saving a list for monthly re-checks is part of the Monitoring plan (A$15.00 a month, 1 saved list, full checks with no 25-row cap). Running lists for several businesses? Bookkeeper (A$49.00 a month) holds up to 15.

Common questions

What does contractor watch look at?

Three things on the Australian Business Register for every subbie on your list: whether the ABN is cancelled, whether GST registration has ended, and whether the registered entity name has changed.

How often is it checked?

Every saved list is re-checked about once a month. You can also run a re-check yourself from the list page at any time.

What do I see?

A list page with the current status of every subbie: active or cancelled, GST current or not, the registered name, any flags, and what changed on the last re-check. You can download it as a CSV or PDF.

Can I watch just one subbie for free?

Yes. The free ABN watch covers one ABN per email address, with no account. It emails you only if that ABN is cancelled, GST ends or the name changes.

Is this tax advice?

No. It reports what the public register shows. What you do about a change, such as withholding from a payment, is up to you and your adviser.
